According to the Pakistani Telecommunications Authority (PTA), an approximate 50 million people are using broadband internet services. The figure represents a surge of 24.5% in the number of users since November 2017.

Mobile Broadband Subscribers are the Majority

Off all the broadband users in the country, PTA noted that an approximate 94% were mobile broadband subscribers. The telecommunication body attributed the increase in the number of overall users to the increased use of smartphones on social media platforms.

Over the past few years, the number of companies in Pakistan availing affordable 3G and 4G smartphones has increased, resulting in a higher demand for complementary internet services. The availability of smartphones fueled consumer need for devices such as MiFi and Winger. It also pushed more consumers into subscribing to mobile Internet services.

Pakistan remains one of the fastest-growing markets for telecommunication products in the Asian region. If the trend continues, the country will be a hub for companies providing 3G, 4G, and 4G LTE services in future.
