How smart is a smartwatch without a long lasting battery to its name? In this ever advancing tech world, smartwatches have become increasingly useful – providing important tech properties. The Huawei watch 2 does provide attractive regular smartwatch properties and its battery life is good.

Upon testing the Huawei watch 2, we can confirm it is an improved version of the original Huawei watch. The original Huawei watch had a 1.4-inches screen and was protected with scratch-proof sapphire crystal glass. The watch 2 however, comes with a smaller 1.2-inches screen and it is now protected with Gorilla Glass 3. According to Huawei, this will reduce the weight of the watch even while it’s thicker than the previous one. This is of course the case, as the Huawei watch 2 is surprisingly light at 42g.

Features of Huawei Watch 2

The Huawei watch 2 comes along with 4G LTE connectivity, a Nano sim concealed under one of its fastenings, a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset with RAM of 768 MB and on-board storage of 4GB with 2.3GB user storage capacity, an optical heart-rate sensor, a 420mAh battery, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and NFC. The storage capacity allows a user download apps directly from Google Play store.

The smartwatch runs on Android Wear 2.0 operating system and can be paired with iOS 8.2later versions and Android 4.3/later versions. Unfortunately this $300 smart piece is not swim proof like Apple’s Watch Series 2 basic version. This is a big flaw we noticed while reviewing Huawei’s latest smart piece.

With normal usage, the Huawei watch 2 will last up to two days, or up to 10 hours with an active GPS signal. The smartwatch also has a new watch mode to ensure the battery lasts for much longer time – with only 10 percent battery remaining, the watch could last for a stunning 40 hours! The partnership with Maxis for the one-number-multi-sim service allows you receive calls with the smartwatch even when you are without your phone.

The Huawei watch 2 also helps you track your fitness levels – partnering with First Beat, a company that specializes in providing physiological analytics. The smartwatch can help you provide real-time coaching depending on the particular sporting activity you wish to engage in. With its default workout plan app or any that may be installed. The Huawei watch 2 can provide real time coaching and guide during your sessions. This makes the smartwatch user friendly as it serves as a indicator of your cardio-fitness.

Poor Pricing for Quality

Although this is a good addition to any smartwatch collection. The small screen of the Huawei watch 2 may make it difficult for a user to get used to. This makes entering text on the screen really difficult. The Huawei watch 2 has an Ingress Protection rating of IP68, meaning it could survive some shower session or accidental water contact. However, this watch cannot be your partner in the pool.

The Nixon Mission Android Wear and the Casio WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch come with 100-meter and 50-meter water resistant rating at about the same pricing with the Huawei watch 2. The watch 2 also does not have a wireless charging feature. Also, the battery power falls below expectations when the GPS is on. The Huawei watch 2 is an improved version of the original Huawei watch. However it is nowhere near the expectations we had for it. We do not recommend a “buy” on this.
